Sphinx International Airport

Sphinx International Airport (IATA: SPX, ICAO: HESX) is a public airport, serving the city of Giza, on the western side of Cairo, Egypt. The airport is adjacent to and shares some infrastructure with the Cairo West Air Base. It is located on the Cairo-Alexandria desert road.[3]
The main runway (16R/34L) is 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) west of the Cairo West runway complex. The aircraft parking ramp and terminal facilities are on the west side of the runway.
The Cairo West TACAN (Ident: BLA) is located on the field. The Cairo VOR-DME (Ident: CVO) is located 25.6 nautical miles (47 km) east of the airport.
In October 2017, it was announced that the airport will be open to commercial flights in summer 2018 and is set to start experimental operations in October 2018.
On 26 January 2019 EgyptAir Express launched test flights to Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh, Luxor and Aswan.

Sphinx International Airport to operate its first domestic flight

EgyptAir started operating its first domestic flight on Friday from the newly inaugurated Sphinx International Airport.

It is scheduled to operate about 15 flights per week to serve the internal movement during the half-year vacation in Egypt. Flights are set to head from Sphinx Airport to Luxor, Aswan, Sharm El-Sheikh, Hurghada and vice versa.

“Flights are fully booked, particularly the flights departing to Luxor and Aswan due to their wonderful weather in winter,” an official at the airport said.

“The Sphinx International Airport offers low price flight tickets in comparison to the Cairo International Airport,” he added.

The Sphinx airport is located near the Cairo-Alexandria desert road, serving near regions such as Giza, Al Haram and 6 October City, Faiyum and Beni Suef.

Being located near touristic places like the Pyramids of Giza and the under-construction Grand Egyptian Museum, the airport will grasp people’s attraction towards one-day tours.

Sphinx International Airport received first charter flight from Jordan

Sphinx International Airport (SPX) received its first charter flight from Jordan on last Monday, the civil aviation ministry said.
The airport, located on the northern outskirts of 6 October city, opened its doors earlier last year as part of a plan to alleviate pressure on Cairo International Airport, which is on the eastern side of the capital.
According to the ministry statement, the airport received a flight from Jordan with 108 passengers on board.
The airport aims to serve the Greater Cairo districts of 6 October and Sheikh Zayed, as well as the governorates of Fayoum and Beni Suef.
It began operating in January 2019 on a trial basis with domestic flights to Sharm El-Sheikh and Hurghada.
It will also aim to serve tourists coming to visit the pyramids and the new Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), located next to the Giza Plateau, which is set to open in this year lately.
Construction work on the new airport, dubbed the “300-passenger airport” in the local press for its capacity per hour, started in 2017, carried out by the Egyptian Consultancy Company with a budget of EGP 300 million.
